countryside management can be a complex task depending on many factors. Here at Derwent we are able to work closely with our clients to achieve the desired outcome. Our team of knowledgeable, Skilled and qualified staff will look after your project. a brief description of the works we can offer can be found Below.
Habitat creation, restoration and improvement. we can employ various techniques and methods of improving current habitats, we can help to implement a management plan and carry out the required works.
Bio Diverse planting, Planting native trees, shrubs and the creation of wildflower meadows to increase maintain or improve biodiversity. Using bio-diverse planting and selecting the correct species of flora for your location we can help to improve habitat connectivity, create wildlife corridors and enhance habitat networks.
Hedge-laying, planting and reinstatement Many methods can be used to manage a hedgerow, often we are called in to reinstate old hedgerows that have been maintained regularly by Flail cutting on a regular basis. whilst the flail will neaten up a hedgerow and is relatively cheap and requires less labour time, the long term impact to the hedgerow can be devastating. within a relatively short period of time the base of the hedgerow and inner branches cut by flail will start to die back causing gaps within the hedgerow, in turn it can then cease to be stock proof and cause a loss of biodiversity. We employ traditional practices using both hand and mechanical tools to lay hedges stimulating new growth from the base of the hedge along with the planting of new saplings to reinstate any gaps back into the original hedge. Whilst these methods are more expensive than flail cutting, they can in some instances qualify for grants through Stewardship.
Fencing, Footpaths, boundaries and access. we can offer various types of fencing services, from post and rail to long running lengths of post and strained wire with or without styles and or gateways. We can work with the client and meet their specific needs and if required offer advice on which type of fencing would suit the job its intended to do.
Footpaths and access routes can degrade over time, having to deal with erosion from footfall, weather and vehicle use a poorly maintained route can soon become unusable. We can help to reinstate damaged footpaths and access tracks as well as create new ones. Working with the Client we can establish the best materials to use for usability, longevity and aesthetics.
Regardless of the task at hand our main aim is to complete projects to the highest standards, with the least environmental impact possible.
